A small town girl in a big city world
Goodbye 2005 Happy 2006
2005 was a very eventful year for me. I finished off a college degree, packed up little Betsy and came to the big city of Ottawa. As proclaimed in an emotional New Years speech last night (which was intensified by the deliciously bubbly champagne) I may not have gotten through these last 7 months without my wonderful new friends Aubree and her beau have definately made the transition much easier.(not to mention Gemma and Clem)
2005 was a very interesting year. Here are some of the events that occured throughout the past year that will not be forgotten:
2005 was a very interesting year. Here are some of the events that occured throughout the past year that will not be forgotten:
- my good bye surprise party in Moncton that scared the be-jeezes out of me
- the closing of Rainbow Valley
- the discovery of the world according to Trent (go pink!)
- the beginning of my new career (complete with my first business card)
- getting lost in Gatineau park
- being forgotten on Thanksgiving day (complete with yam casserole and 7UP)
- Gary Bell and Taco Johnny (who will definately be party of 2006 as well)
- and, of course what I'd like to call "the night I hugged the parking meter while shoe-less"
New Job
Well, it has finally happened. After 6 months of searching, I've finally landed myself a full-time PERMANENT job in my field. I gave a weeks notice at my current job and as of Monday December 5th, I will be a recruiter.I also plan on joining the Ottawa Human Resource Association so I am on my way to actually starting off my career. It feels great. Just last Wednesday, opportunity knocked (well, rang actually) and by Friday I had a new job. They don't even mind me heading to PEI for Christmas!
Good Friends
So I've returned to the blogging world after a long abscence. I've recently realized that really good friends are hard to come by. I have a lot of good friends, but what exactly constitutes a really good friend? Well a quality that comes to mind is thoughtfullness. My best friend Dawn fabricated this quilt for me for my birthday last month. She put a lot of time and effort into making it and keeping it a secret at the same time.Really good friends have ways of sneaking out of the woodwork and surprising you with things like this when you least expect it but need it the most!

Cats
Growing up I never had pets as my dad dislikes cats and my mom was afraid of dogs. When every one of my friends had hamsters, I for some reason, was not allowed. So one of the reasons I answered the ad for my room back in May was because the ad stated " 2 cats " I imagined falling asleep at night with a cat cuddled at the end of my bed, like in the movies.
Well I had overlooked the fact that the cats would be attached to their "mom" Aubree and only when she was away would they venture into my room and even then I'd have to be still, like when you are watching a rare bird, as with the slight movement they'd run like the wind.Clem is quite the scaredy cat.
Well this weekend, Aubree has been away to her hometown, and while I am not enjoying the fact she is away, I sure do enjoy the sudden attention from Clem and Gemma. They've both been starving for attention and I have to admit I like being the babysitter. It's amazing how amusing 2 cats can be. I could sit and watch them for hours. I've become the proud surrogate cat owner. Sometimes when talking about them, I mistakenly call them "our" cats, I religiously check Stuffonmycat.com, hoping that today is the day they make the cut, because in my eyes Clem and Gemma are the cutest cats of all. Maybe I'm destined to be a crazy cat lady with 100 cats, who knows?
maritime mothers
YAY!!!!!! No more Casey LeBlanc! It's about time! I don't know how she made it as far as she did. Every telephone in N.B must've been voting for her. Not me, even if I was still in N.B. ! Crazy Maritimers! haha
Speaking of Maritimers, one thing about being from a teeny tiny town in a teeny tiny province is having a "maritime mother." Everyone who hails from "out east" knows exactly what I'm talking about. Now there is no exact definition of a maritime mother, but to mimic the style of Jeff Foxworthy (you might be a redneck) I've composed a short list.
You might be a "maritime mother" if........
- you think your daughter should wear an alarm around her neck when walking in broad daylight
- you think that standing on the corner at 6:00 p.m. is "dangerous"
- you pull the bus stop signal in awe, exclaiming "whats this?"
- when asked where your daughter lives, you simply exclaim "across the street from THE library"
- you tell your daughter to lock her doors when driving in Scarborough
That's all that I can think of right now, does anyone have some to add?
